I was always very independent, but suddenly I had to ask my parents and friends to help me do the groceries, put up a shelf, and even reach for something in the cupboards. It was like becoming a child again, says Adam. People only wanted to help me and do what they could to make things easier for me, but the more they did, the worse I felt.

Patricia remembers having several doubts.
I had wanted a second child for a long time, but went I got pregnant I was terrified! Could I take care of a baby? How would I lay my child down in the crib? How would I manage holding the baby in my wheelchair?
